Creator of light, we offer thanks for thy priest Henry Budd, who carried the great treasure of Scripture to his people the Cree nation, earning their trust and love. Grant that his example may call us to reverence, orderliness and love, that we may give thee glory in word and action; through Jesus Christ our Savior, who with thee and the Holy Spirit livest and reignest, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Henry Budd (~1812 - 2 April 1875) was the first native American ordained as an Anglican priest. He was born near Norway House in what is now Manitoba, and was orphaned as a child. He was then raised by an Anglican priest, the Rev. John West.

Henry proved bright and capable, and put in charge of a school. By 1840 he was asked to start a mission at Cumberland House, in what is now Saskatchewan. He soon moved to The Pas (today just across the border in Manitoba) and converted many of the native Cree to Christianity. He was eventually ordained on 22 Dec. 1850.

He remained in the area serving the people there until his death in 1875.
